How do we define In Process ?
‘A series of actions or step takin in order to achieve a particular end’

The processes of making, thought, and design all share a common objective: to facilitate transition, representing a reaction to a preceding action. How each individual reacts varies from one to another, how we all absorb, reflect then act when receiving a certain task or information differs due to our influences – education, backgrounds, and cultures. This diversity is what makes the process of creation so exciting, as it serves as a catalyst for variety and innovation in design and craft.

We aim to encourage individuals, brands, and communities to reflect on their respective processes. Every single one of us goes through a succession of processes. What are these distrinct series of processes? How do these processes contribute to our indentity ?

Let’s put these processes under a magnifying glass and celebrate these unique identities and journeys they represent.

FUN FACTS

About NAGOMI Pavilion

The Balinese people engage in deeply rooted traditional and reliqius ceremonies that serve as a vital ‘pause’ in theri fast-paced modern lives, performed voluntarrily under the concept of “Ngayah” . Each ceremony necessitates specific, teporary spaces, prompting quick construction, as exemplified by “tetaring” , a bamboo installation that shelters parcipants while marking the ceremony’s presence.
its simple design and accessible materials promote widespread community involvement, reflecting Bali’s strong Gotong Royong spirit.
Collective effort takes precendence over individual goals, fostering diverse personalities to unite through collaboration and joy, creating an ‘anesthetic of time’ during the process. this essence is captured in a 10x10m pavillion installation for NAGOMI, a Japanese-inspired bathroom brand, featuring HINOKI wood in its construction. The pavillion’s ‘contradictory’ design-melding static and dynamic lines-symbolizes the collaboration among individuals from varied backgrounds working toward a shared purpose.

Genius Loci Concept

Asia, a culturally rich continent, especially rich in the southeast with thousands of islands and diverse ethnic and culture. This diversity shaped its own unique architecture and their city patterns. This matter leads to a question. How can we, Nagomi and Partner, have our identity despite its diversity?

One of the methods solving this issue is Herman Hertzberger’s Warp & Weft thinking. It states that each city or region has their own pattern like fabric constructed by weft yarn and warp yarn. The place where we build our environment is part of the fabric with its pattern and texture. So, if design abandons this pattern, it surely can’t be fitted to its pattern and will create chaos.

The concept is transcribed by Nagomi and Partner into adesign process, producing an interactive and communicative design with its concept of space, proportion, material, and building mass. From this on,hopefully we will disclose a design identity, not only shown from the result but also from the design process. This design approach is a reading of the contextual characteristic to create the spirit of the place which we also know as “Genius Loci ‘’.
